Two of four confirmed nominees are from Georgia

Atlanta, Ga. –– U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is pushing for swift action to secure justice for the victims of civil rights crimes.
At Sen. Ossoff’s urging, last night the U.S. Senate confirmed two Georgians — Emory University archivist Gabrielle Dudley and Emory University Professor and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Hank Klibanoff — to the Civil Rights Cold Case Review Board.
Sen. Ossoff has introduced bipartisan legislation to continue the investigations of unsolved civil rights crimes, granting the board through 2027 to continue its work.
“Victims of lynchings and unsolved civil rights crimes deserve justice, and so do their families. I urge the Review Board to begin their vital work as quickly as possible to swiftly secure justice,” Sen. Ossoff said.
Sen. Ossoff reiterated his firm support for the Civil Rights Cold Case Records Review Board during a Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee hearing last month.
While the Review Board was formally authorized and signed into law by former President Donald Trump in 2019, Board members were not nominated until last year and confirmed last night.
