READOUT: Sen. Ossoff Call with Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh

Sen. Ossoff previously met with Prime Minister Shtayyeh in the West Bank last September

Washington, D.C. — This morning, U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff held a 40-minute phone call with Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh.

Sen. Ossoff previously met with the Prime Minister last September in Ramallah.

The two discussed regional security; relations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority; and political, security, and economic conditions in the West Bank and Gaza.

Sen. Ossoff affirmed his commitment to helping achieve a future when Israelis and Palestinians alike can flourish in peace and security.

Sen. Ossoff also raised the killing of Shireen Abu Akleh, an American journalist shot to death while reporting in the West Bank last month. Sen. Ossoff requested information regarding the Palestinian Authority’s efforts to investigate Ms. Akleh’s death and reiterated his desire that all parties ensure a full, transparent, and unbiased investigation is completed.

Earlier this month, Sens. Ossoff and Mitt Romney (R-UT) urged U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken to ensure there is a full and transparent investigation of Ms. Abu Akleh’s death.

Sen. Ossoff highlighted his recent bipartisan effort leading a group of 34 U.S. Senators with Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) to sustain high-level regional engagement by the U.S. Security Coordinator for Israel and the Palestinian Authority.

Sen. Ossoff continues to forge strong working relationships with key leaders in the Middle East.

This month, Sen. Ossoff met with Israel’s Ambassador to the United States and Qatar’s Ambassador to the United States. Last month, the Senator met with Egypt’s Ambassador to the United States.

In April, Sen. Ossoff hosted Nir Barkat, Member of the Israeli Knesset, for an in-person meeting in Washington. Sen. Ossoff met with U.S. Ambassador to Israel Thomas Nides in March.

Earlier this year, Sen. Ossoff met twice with Israeli Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Idan Roll.

Sen. Ossoff met twice last year with Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid — once in Israel and once in the United States — and also met last year with Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, Israeli President Isaac Herzog, and Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh.

Last November, Sen. Ossoff hosted Lebanon Armed Forces Commander General Joseph Aoun in Washington for consultations on regional security following their September meeting in Beirut.
