LaGrange, Ga. — U.S. Senators Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff today announced new Federal resources to upgrade housing conditions across the Chattahoochee Valley.
Sens. Ossoff and Warnock are delivering $1,987,070 through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Healthy Homes Production Grant program to Troup County Habitat for Humanity that will be used to complete home repairs and upgrades in 60 units.
Healthy Homes Production Grants help identify and repair health and safety hazards in housing units.
“Senator Reverend Warnock and I are delivering these resources to help improve the quality of housing for Georgia families,” said Sen. Ossoff. “Working families in Georgia urgently need access to quality, affordable housing.”
“Georgia children can’t grow and thrive unless they’re living in a safe and healthy environment. When we fight for the health of children across the Peach State, we fight for the next generations of leaders. I’ll continue working to ensure our schools and homes are hazard-free,” said Sen. Warnock.
“Habitat for Humanity Troup County is thrilled to announce our receipt of a HUD grant dedicated to addressing lead contamination and other hazards in the homes of eligible families in Harris, Heard, and Troup Counties in Georgia. Our commitment extends towards addressing the specific and disproportionate need for safe and healthy housing among protected class groups. These groups include individuals with disabilities, families with children, and underserved communities from the global majority,” said Sandie Pike, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Troup County, Inc. “With the support of this grant, we are poised to make a meaningful impact by providing assistance to 30 families in Central West Georgia. This aid will primarily benefit those with members diagnosed with asthma or lead exposure, individuals residing in Justice40 areas, families with an income at 80% or more of the Area Median Income (AMI) for their county, and those facing the most severe housing renovation needs. Our aim is to ensure that the most vulnerable among us have access to sustainable, affordable, and decent housing, aligning with our mission to create a community where everyone has a safe place to call home.”
This is the latest action in Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Warnock’s continued work to help Georgia families and homeowners.
Last May, Sen. Ossoff delivered $2.8 million in Federal funding to the Athens Area Habitat for Humanity to build affordable housing.
Last December, Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Warnock delivered Federal funding through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Housing Preservation Grants program that will be used to complete home repairs and rehabilitation.
Sen. Ossoff has pushed the Federal Housing Finance Agency to address the inadequate supply of affordable housing across rural Georgia.
Last year, Sen. Ossoff also introduced the bipartisan HELPER Act alongside Sen. Rubio (R-FL) to help first responders, teachers and law enforcement officers to buy their first home.
