Liberty County, Ga. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is delivering new resources to improve road safety in Liberty County.
Sen. Ossoff is delivering new Federal funding to help construct a new roadway bypass for freight and passenger traffic around Hinesville. As the area has grown to become an east-west freight corridor, according to local officials, the combination of local and commercial traffic has diminished mobility and safety on the existing roads.
The project aims to construct a new roadway from SR38/US84 to SR119 to alleviate traffic.
Sen. Ossoff brought Republicans and Democrats together to deliver $2,712,000 for the project through this year’s bipartisan government funding package, working alongside Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock.
“I brought Republicans and Democrats together to help upgrade infrastructure for families in Liberty County — reducing delays and improving safety,” Sen. Ossoff said. “I thank Liberty County Chairman Donald Lovette and the County Commission for bringing this proposal to my office and for their leadership in the community.”
“The bypass project has been a high priority project for Liberty County. However, it was stalled due to a lack of funding to relocate utilities. The 2.7 million dollars allocated to the project is very timely as the population and traffic congestion grows in Liberty County. In addition, the bypass is a larger part of SPLOST funded transportation projects needed to accommodate truck traffic, provide public safety and facilitate economic development in Liberty County. It will be worth the wait,” said Chairman Donald Lovette, Liberty County Board of Commissioners.
