Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is backing a bipartisan bill to strengthen Georgia’s veterinary workforce.
Today, Sen. Ossoff is launching a push to pass the bipartisan Rural Veterinary Workforce Act to help address the veterinary shortage across Georgia.
The bipartisan bill would eliminate the income withholding tax on each individual Veterinary Medicine Loan Repayment Program (VMLRP) award, which would allow the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to increase the number of awards made to Georgia veterinarians.
“Georgia communities depend on access to veterinary care — especially our farmers and ranchers. That’s why I am working with Republicans and Democrats to pass the bipartisan Rural Veterinary Workforce Act to strengthen Georgia’s veterinary workforce,” Sen. Ossoff said.
The bipartisan bill was first introduced last year by Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Mike Crapo (R-ID).
Sen. Ossoff continues working to strengthen Georgia’s veterinary workforce.
In April, Sen. Ossoff delivered Federal resources to upgrade the equipment and infrastructure at the University of Georgia’s Tifton Veterinary Diagnostic and Investigational Laboratory, which conducts research and testing to prevent animal disease outbreaks and protect Georgia’s agricultural industries.
