Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Jon Ossoff and Reverend Warnock announced new federal resources to Newnan and surrounding counties following a tornado that touched down in Coweta County in March. The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) approved a disaster declaration for Coweta County and contiguous counties, including Carroll, Fayette, Fulton, Heard, Meriwether, Spalding, and Troup, that will offer low-interest loans for businesses, homeowners, and renters. Additionally, the SBA is slated to open a Disaster Loan Outreach Center in Coweta County on Friday, July 23rd through August 5th to assist businesses and residents affected by the disaster.

Following the tornado’s destruction in late March, Senators Warnock and Ossoff mobilized to deliver resources and support for impacted communities. The Senators observed the impacts of the storm, met with residents and local leaders, and committed to push for federal resources for a full recovery. Following direct engagement from the Senators, the Biden-Harris Administration granted a Major Disaster Declaration for the affected counties, triggering Public Assistance and Hazard Mitigation funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. On June 15th, the Senators renewed their call for Individual Assistance for Coweta County in a letter to President Biden, and have since been diligent in working alongside local officials to deliver additional federal resources.

“After the devastating tornado, I met with Newnan residents, some who loss everything except their lives and abundance of faith.” said Senator Reverend Warnock. “Senator Ossoff and I pledged to do everything in our power to deliver resources for a full recovery in Coweta County and surrounding areas, and I am proud of these resources secured through the SBA to protect homeowners, renters, and small businesses. Our work does not stop here; I will keep fighting to make sure Newnan recovers and thrives better than ever before.”

“Senator Reverend Warnock and I continue to fight for relief for Coweta County and the people affected by the tornado earlier this year,” said Senator Ossoff. “We thank the SBA for responding to our request and sending this much needed help.”
