Sens. Ossoff, Scott Introduce Bipartisan Legislation to Prepare HBCU Students for National Security Jobs

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senators Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) and Tim Scott (R-SC) are working to prepare HBCU students for job opportunities in the national security field.

Sens. Ossoff and Scott today introduced the bipartisan HBCU National Security Innovation Act, which will connect HBCU students with national security programs in the defense industry and private sector to prepare them for competitive and high-paying jobs in the growing sector.

“The HBCU National Security Innovation Act will support the growth of America’s HBCUs in research, development, and innovation vital to American national security,” Sen. Ossoff said.

“As technology continues to advance, our nation faces unprecedented threats that will require new skills and innovation,” said Sen. Scott. “That’s why I am proud to work to build an enduring connection between Historically Black Colleges and Universities and the Department of Defense. This bill will not only open doors to new opportunities for diverse students, but it will also allow the Department of Defense to tap into a deeper talent pool than ever before, bolstering our national security for years to come.”

Sen. Ossoff is a champion for HBCUs in the Senate. He has delivered over a quarter of a billion dollars to Georgia’s HBCUs so far this year.

Sen. Ossoff is also working to pass his bipartisan Cybersecurity Opportunity Act, which would expand cybersecurity training programs at Historically Black Colleges and Universities and other colleges and universities that serve a high proportion of Pell Grant recipients in Georgia and nationwide.
