Sen. Ossoff Urges Senate Foreign Relations Committee to Swiftly Confirm U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Korea

Sen. Ossoff continues his work to strengthen U.S.-ROK relations

Last year, Sen. Ossoff called on President Biden to Nominate a U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Korea

Georgia is a major destination for ROK foreign direct investment, which employs thousands of Georgians and directly contributes to the state’s economy.

Washington D.C.— U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is continuing his push to strengthen the long-standing partnership between the United States and the Republic of Korea (ROK).

In a letter, Sen. Ossoff called on the leadership of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee to expedite its consideration of Ambassador Philip S. Goldberg to be the next U.S. Ambassador to the ROK.

Sen. Ossoff’s request comes as ROK President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol prepares to take office in May.

“With President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol slated to take office on May 10, the United States urgently needs Senate-confirmed representation in Seoul to address regional and security challenges,” wrote Sen. Ossoff.

In December 2021, Sen. Ossoff pressed the Biden Administration to nominate an ambassador to the ROK. In February of this year, the White House nominated Ambassador Goldberg.

In November, Sen. Ossoff led a historic economic delegation to the ROK, where he met with key economic and government leaders, including President-elect Yoon, to deepen ties between the two nations and between the ROK and Georgia.

Georgia is a major destination for ROK foreign direct investment, including major employers in strategic industries such as batteries, renewable energy, and automobiles, employing thousands of Georgians and representing billions of dollars of investment in the United States.
