Sens. Ossoff & Warnock, Rep. Williams Announce Project to Upgrade to Atlanta Airport’s Concourse D Through Bipartisan Infrastructure Law

Project will widen, upgrade, and modernize the Concourse, upgrading passenger experience & improving airport efficiency

Project to create over 500 jobs

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senators Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock and Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05) today announced new upgrades to passenger experience are coming to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport through the bipartisan infrastructure law.

Sens. Ossoff and Warnock and Rep. Williams secured funding through the bipartisan infrastructure law to revamp and upgrade Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport’s Concourse D, upgrading passenger experience, improving airport efficiency, and creating more than 500 construction jobs.

The $40 million project will widen and modernize the terminal, upgrading the passenger experience with expanded waiting areas, larger restrooms, improved ADA accessibility, an expanded central concourse corridor, and more.

“We are upgrading Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to improve airport efficiency and the passenger experience,”Senator Ossoff said. “These upgrades are possible thanks to the bipartisan infrastructure law we passed in Congress last year.”

“Today’s announcement highlights the benefits of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, in action: how the law is creating hundreds of jobs and strengthening Georgia’s economy,” said Senator Reverend Warnock. “This funding will help modernize Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the busiest airport in the world and an economic engine for Atlanta and the state. I’ll continue to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to make critical infrastructure investments in every corner of our state.”

“For generations, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has been the world’s busiest and efficient airport, the most important piece of civilian infrastructure in the country, and a source of Black wealth. We must invest in our airport so it can keep flying high for generations to come,” Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05), a member of the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee Subcommittee on Aviation said. “With this grant and investments from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, I am securing the resources needed so Hartsfield-Jackson Airport can continue to serve its millions of passengers.”

“Hartsfield-Jackson is the busiest and most efficient airport in the world, and we need to invest in its infrastructure for continued growth and leadership of the commercial aviation industry,” said Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens. “This grant will create good-paying jobs as we widen Concourse D to bring the 40-year-old structure up to the level of the airport’s six other concourses. ATL will continue the work started by Mayor Jackson to ensure all eligible businesses will be provided an opportunity to participate in this project. I thank our Federal delegation for their bipartisan commitment to infrastructure investment and for delivering these dollars to ATL.”

“Concourse D, for more than four decades, has played an integral role in allowing ATL to retain its status as a vital cog in the aviation system,” said Aviation General Manager Balram Bheodari. “It is now time for an upgrade, and this grant will provide the funding necessary to begin the project that will shape ATL for the next four decades.”

The bipartisan infrastructure law included roughly $619 million for Georgia’s airports to improve efficiency, upgrade terminals, and more.

Last year, Sens. Ossoff and Warnock also secured $13.5 million to update nine airports across Georgia, including Augusta Regional and Columbus Airport.

Sens. Ossoff and Warnock also announced $6 million in grants from the Department of Transportation to improve the travel experience at the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport.
