Sens. Ossoff, Graham lead group of Southeastern U.S. Senators urging Biden Administration to support Southeast Hydrogen Hub proposal

Bipartisan Infrastructure Law included $8 billion for regional hydrogen hubs
Washington D.C. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is continuing his push to strengthen American energy security and attract new economic investment to Georgia and the Southeast.
Today, Sens. Ossoff and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) led a bipartisan group of Southeastern U.S. Senators from Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee in support of the Southeast Hydrogen Hub coalition.
In November, following Sen. Ossoff’s efforts, a coalition of energy companies, universities, and nonprofit organizations in the Southeast announced it would bid to establish hydrogen energy infrastructure across Georgia and the Southeast through the bipartisan infrastructure law, which established the new $8 billion competitive grant opportunity.
Sens. Ossoff and Graham are joined by Sens. Ted Budd (R-NC), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA), Tim Scott (R-SC), Bill Hagerty (R-TN), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), and Katie Britt (R-AL).
“The Southeast Hydrogen Hub coalition’s member states are home to many of the nation’s leading transportation, logistics, energy, manufacturing and research assets. We are heartened by the Department of Energy’s encouraging notification in response to the coalition’s concept paper and urge the Department to select the Southeast Hydrogen Hub coalition for funding. We stand ready to provide long-term support for the Southeast Hydrogen Hub’s implementation and growth,” Sens. Ossoff, Graham, and the group wrote to Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm.
Sen. Ossoff has been a key leader bringing stakeholders together to plan a regional hydrogen hub bid.
Last April, Sen. Ossoff convened Georgia businesses and research leaders to plan Georgia’s development of hydrogen energy infrastructure through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
Then, in June, Sen. Ossoff led a coalition of Georgia energy companies, universities, public transportation agencies, and clean energy advocates in support of a partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy. In October, Sen. Ossoff’s office convened key partners in Camden County to discuss coastal Georgia’s vital role in this cutting-edge energy infrastructure.
Earlier this year, Sen. Ossoff and Georgia Public Service Commissioner Tim Echols launched the Georgia Hydrogen Energy Braintrust, which is working with Georgia businesses, public and private partners, energy companies, universities, transportation agencies, and more to make Georgia a national leader in the hydrogen energy space.
Sen. Ossoff and Commissioner Echols held the first meeting of the Braintrust in metro Atlanta earlier in February.
