Sen. Ossoff Delivering Resources to Strengthen Chatham Area Transit

Project will support ADA-accessible transit services

Savannah, Ga. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is delivering new resources to strengthen Chatham Area Transit and help Georgians get around.

Sen. Ossoff brought Republicans and Democrats together to help Chatham Area Transit (CAT) establish a new maintenance facility and strengthen ADA transit services for customers.

The project aims to open a new maintenance facility in western Chatham County, improving access, reducing wait times, decreasing congestion, and increasing preventative maintenance on vehicles.

CAT offers fixed-route service, county-wide paratransit service, and a water ferry service that connects major employers, major tourist destinations in the area, and all area colleges, universities, and hospitals.

“I’m upgrading public transportation services for residents of coastal Georgia to ensure that seniors and those with disabilities have access to Chatham Area Transit. Coastal Georgia is always on my mind,” Sen. Ossoff said.

“Chatham Area Transit is honored to have the support of Senator Jon Ossoff to bring better care, better resources, and safer operations for our Paratransit riders,” said CAT Executive Director and CEO Faye DiMassimo. “CAT takes pride in knowing that every resident in Chatham County has access to get to the places they need and want to go in a reliable, safe, and efficient matter. We look forward to bringing this project to completion and the opening of the new CAT Maintenance Facility.”

Sen. Ossoff secured the $2.25 million for the project through last year’s government funding package.
