Ahead of 2023 Farm Bill reauthorization, Sen. Ossoff is meeting with key agricultural leaders to ensure legislation meets needs of Georgia farmers & growers
Georgia produced over half of the nation’s peanuts in 2021
Douglas, Ga. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is working to strengthen Georgia’s vital peanut industry.
On Tuesday, Sen. Ossoff heard directly from peanut growers in Douglas about the needs of the industry, including support for farmers to export their products and increase research on pests and threats to the peanut industry.
This week, Sen. Ossoff met with farmers and growers from key agricultural industries as Congress begins working on this year’s Farm Bill, key legislation reauthorized every five years that includes key programs, such as agricultural research, crop insurance, commodity pricing, and more.
According to the USDA, Georgia farmers produced over 3.3 billion pounds of peanuts in 2021 alone. According to the Georgia Peanut Commission, Georgia’s peanut industry generates more than $2 billion a year.
