READOUT: Sen. Ossoff Meets with Member of Israeli Knesset & Labor Party Leader Merav Michaeli

Washington, D.C. — Yesterday afternoon, U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff hosted Merav Michaeli, Member of the Israeli Knesset and Israeli Labor Party leader, for an in-person meeting in Washington, D.C.

During their meeting, Sen. Ossoff and MK Michaeli discussed the U.S.-Israel alliance, regional security in the Middle East, and relations between Israelis and Palestinians. Sen. Ossoff and MK Michaeli affirmed their mutual concern for peace, freedom, and stability in the Middle East.

Sen. Ossoff affirmed his commitment to helping achieve a future when Israelis and Palestinians alike can flourish in peace.

Last year, Israeli newspaper Haaretz wrote of Sen. Ossoff’s sustained regional engagement: “Not only has the Georgia senator crafted lasting relationships with Israeli, Palestinian and political, diplomatic and military officials in the region, he has done something arguably even more notable: spearheaded significant bipartisan efforts aimed at pushing conflict resolution and a political settlement forward.”

In August, Sens. Ossoff and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) successfully pushed the Biden Administration to protect a key U.S. military and diplomatic post in the Middle East, ensuring the Department of Defense maintained the United States Security Coordinator (USSC) position at the three-star rank.

Over the last year, Sen. Ossoff has engaged intensively with regional leaders to advance U.S. interests and national security, including meeting with the His Majesty, King Abdullah of Jordan; speaking by phone with Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh; meeting with Israel’s previous Ambassador to the U.S. Michael Herzog; hosting Member of the Knesset and current Minister of the Economy Nir Barkat in Washington; meeting with U.S. Ambassador to Israel Thomas Nides; and meeting twice with Israel’s former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Idan Roll.
