Sen. Ossoff Delivering Upgrades to UGA’s Veterinary Lab in Tifton

Tifton, Ga. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is delivering upgrades to strengthen disease outbreak testing and detection in Georgia.

Sen. Ossoff is delivering Federal resources to upgrade the equipment and infrastructure at the University of Georgia’s Tifton Veterinary Diagnostic and Investigational Laboratory, which conducts research and testing to prevent animal disease outbreaks and protect Georgia’s agricultural industries.

The funding will help upgrade 30-year-old equipment and allow the laboratory to more effectively detect and address animal and human disease outbreaks.

Sen. Ossoff brought Republicans and Democrats together to deliver $1 million for the project through this year’s bipartisan government funding package, working alongside Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock and Congressman David Scott (GA-13).

“Georgia’s agricultural industry needs world-class science and research capabilities to protect them from deadly outbreaks and diseases,” Sen. Ossoff said. “Working alongside Senator Reverend Warnock and Congressman David Scott, I brought Republicans and Democrats together to strengthen UGA’s Veterinary Diagnostic Lab in Tifton to enhance those efforts. I thank the University of Georgia for bringing this proposal to my office and for their leadership.”

“The UGA College of Veterinary Medicine and the Tifton Veterinary Diagnostic and Investigational Laboratory are truly grateful for the leadership and support of Senator Ossoff, Senator Warnock, and Representative David Scott. The timing couldn’t be more perfect for the Tifton Lab, as this funding will address critical infrastructure needs, upgrade outdated laboratory equipment, and integrate cutting-edge diagnostic technology. With this support, the Tifton Lab is poised to enhance its capacity to serve animal health, agriculture, and public health needs in South Georgia,” said Dr. Jesse Hostetter, Executive Director of UGA’s Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratories in Tifton and Athens.
