Sen. Ossoff Backing Bipartisan Bill to Award Billie Jean King Congressional Gold Medal

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is working to award a Congressional Gold Medal to Billie Jean King.

Sen. Ossoff is launching a push to pass the Billie Jean King Congressional Gold Medal Act, bipartisan legislation he co-sponsored to award a Congressional Gold Medal to Billie Jean King.

The bipartisan bill was introduced by Senators Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), and Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ) and is endorsed by the United States Tennis Association (USTA).

“Billie Jean King is a trailblazer for women’s athletics and for equal rights. Her decades of leadership and tenacity blazed a path for equal rights in sport and in our society. It’s only fitting we bestow upon her a Congressional Gold Medal in recognition of her lifetime of work on behalf of women, the LGBTQ community, and athletes around the world,” Sen. Ossoff said.

The Congressional Gold Medal is the oldest and highest civilian award in the United States, alongside the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
