Sen. Ossoff, Absolics broke ground on manufacturing facility in Covington in 2022
Historic “CHIPS Act” funding will supercharge chips manufacturing
Covington, Ga. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff today announced a historic Federal investment in Georgia semiconductor manufacturing.
Sen. Ossoff announced that Absolics, a subsidiary of SKC, will receive up to $75 million in Federal funding through the bipartisan CHIPS Act to strengthen domestic semiconductor production in Georgia, supporting the construction of a 120,000 square foot facility in Covington and creating manufacturing, R&D, and construction jobs.
The Federal funding will strengthen U.S. national security and help make Georgia a national leader in semiconductor manufacturing. Absolics manufactures glass substrate, an important component for next-generation semiconductor manufacturing.
“This is a great day for Georgia’s economic development. When we set out to pass the bipartisan Chips Act through Congress, it was with this exact goal in mind. This historic Federal investment will create Georgia jobs, support U.S. national security, and bring more advanced manufacturing to our state,” Sen. Ossoff said.
In 2022, Sen. Ossoff joined Absolics’ leadership to break ground on their facility in Covington, Georgia, which created 400 highly skilled jobs.
“With the support of this proposed CHIPS funding, Absolics will be able to fully commercialize our pioneering glass substrate technology for use in high-performance computing and cutting-edge defense applications. This effort is crucial in establishing a robust semiconductor advanced packaging ecosystem in the State of Georgia and restoring the U.S.’s leadership in semiconductor industry. Our new facility in Covington will not only enhance our ability to produce high-quality glass substrates but also create high-skilled jobs and drive innovation through our partnership with Georgia Tech,” said Absolics CEO Jun Rok Oh. “Absolics is proud to contribute to the resilience and competitiveness of the American semiconductor industry.”
“An important part of the success of President Biden’s CHIPS program is ensuring the United States is a global leader in every part of the semiconductor supply chain, and the advanced semiconductor packaging technologies Absolics is working on will help to achieve that goal, while also creating hundreds of jobs in Georgia,” said U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo. “Through this proposed investment in Absolics, the Biden-Harris Administration is helping accelerate innovation, advance U.S. technological leadership in semiconductor manufacturing, and generate economic opportunity in the Atlanta area and throughout the state.”
