Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Warnock Announce More Than $5.4 Million for Electric Buses in Metro Atlanta

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senators Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock today announced more than $5.4 million in funding for the Atlanta-Region Transit Link Authority to purchase electric buses.

The federal grant funding will help provide cleaner, more energy efficient transit service for Georgians.

Xpress commuter bus, operated by the Atlanta-Region Transit Link Authority, will receive funds to purchase battery electric coach buses to replace diesel buses that have reached their useful life. The project will reduce emissions and improve air quality in Fulton, Clayton, and Henry counties.

Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Warnock continue to lead efforts to invest in clean and renewable energy as they work to pass a historic infrastructure and clean energy package in the Senate.

“We have secured this funding because electrification of Georgia’s public bus fleet is an economic and environmental imperative. These new buses will reduce air pollution and increase the efficiency of transit in Georgia,” Sen. Ossoff said.

“This grant to modernize Atlanta-Region Transit Link Authority’s bus fleet will help pave a path to a greener Georgia, and I’ll keep fighting in the Senate with Sen. Ossoff to provide affordable, clean transit options for all Georgians,” said Sen. Rev. Warnock.

The Low-No Program through the Federal Transit Administration provides funding to state and local governmental authorities for the purchase or lease of zero-emission and low-emission transit buses, including acquisition, construction, and leasing of required supporting facilities.
