Legislation will provide additional funding for programs that support victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse, and other crimes
Washington, D.C. –– Today the U.S. Senate voted unanimously to pass bipartisan legislation U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff co-sponsored to provide more funding for services and programs to help victims of violent crime.
The VOCA Fix to Sustain the Crime Victims Fund Act of 2021 will increase funds available for thousands of victim service providers nationwide, including programs that serve victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, human trafficking, and child abuse.
It also funds victims compensation, including paying medical bills and funeral costs.
“I’m proud we came together to pass this critical legislation that will ensure victims of violent crime in Georgia and nationwide can access the resources, support, and treatment they deserve,” said Sen. Ossoff.
The bill has widespread support from over 60 organizations in Georgia, including the Children’s Advocacy Centers of Georgia; GA Coalition Against Domestic Violence; Georgia Network to End Sexual Assault (GNESA); Battered Women’s Shelter Inc, Valdosta; Chattahoochee CASA, Columbus; Child Enrichment, Inc., Augusta; Crescent House, Atrium Health Navicent, Macon; Lily Pad SANE Center, Inc., Albany; SAFE SHELTER Center for Domestic Violence Services, Savannah; and the The GreenHouse Child Advocacy and Sexual Assault Center, Dalton.
