Washington, D.C. –– U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is urging Congress to include his two landmark pieces of solar legislation in the upcoming budget reconciliation package in order to responsibly meet the Biden Administration’s recently announced goal of producing 40 percent of electricity with solar power by 2035.

Sen. Ossoff has introduced legislation to boost domestic solar production, create good-paying jobs, make it more affordable to install rooftop solar, and reduce our dependency on China, including reducing solar panel purchasing from China that partially relies on Uyghur slave labor.

“I am leading the effort to supercharge American solar because we must transition to clean energy and we must make it in America,” said Sen. Ossoff

Newly releasedpolling finds a majority of Democrats, Independents, and Republicans support Sen. Ossoff’s legislation and efforts to invest in renewable energy sources. 67% of Americans — including a plurality of Republican voters — support Sen. Ossoff’s legislation to boost domestic solar manufacturing, and 75% of voters support his efforts to make it cheaper for homeowners and businesses to install rooftop solar.

Sen. Ossoff’s Solar Energy Manufacturing for America Act would provide tax credits for American manufacturers at every stage of the solar manufacturing supply chain, from production of polysilicon to solar cells to fully assembled solar modules.

The bill would create tens of thousands of American solar jobs based on analysis and estimates from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). A 2021 U.S. Department of Energy report also cited Sen. Ossoff’s bill as a leading strategy for increasing domestic solar manufacturing, which will be necessary to meeting the Administration’s goal.

Sen. Ossoff also recently introduced legislation to make rooftop solar panel installations and cutting-edge solar integrated roofing systems much more affordable for homeowners and businesses.
