Sen. Ossoff Pushing Congress to Include Additional Funding for Georgia Community Health Centers in Budget Reconciliation Bill

Washington, D.C. –– U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is championing efforts in the U.S. Senate to secure additional funding for community health centers across Georgia in the upcoming Senate budget reconciliation measure.

With the recent surge in COVID-19 cases, Sen. Ossoff is continuing his efforts to ensure Georgia’s health centers have the resources they need to serve their communities by pushing Congress to act swiftly.

“I will keep fighting to boost funding for Georgia’s clinics and community health centers because every Georgian deserves the best health care in the world and our medical teams need our full support, especially during this pandemic,” Sen. Ossoff said.

In March, Sen. Ossoff secured more than $143 million in direct funding for Georgia community health centers through the American Rescue Plan, which provided key funding to ensure health care providers across Georgia had the resources necessary to care for patients, ramp up COVID-19 testing, and accelerate COVID-19 vaccine distribution.

Sen. Ossoff recently also secured additional funding for Georgia hospitals after urging Sec. Xavier Becerra and the Department of Health and Human Services to swiftly allocate COVID relief funding torural clinics and hospitals as well as safety net hospitals, citing the rise in COVID-19 cases and the strain on hospitals across the state of Georgia.

At Sen. Ossoff’s urging, the Department of Health and Human Services made $25.5 billion in new Provider Relief Funding available for health care providers and hospitals affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. This funding includes $8.5 billion in American Rescue Plan resources for providers who serve rural Medicaid, Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), or Medicare patients and $17 billion for the Provider Relief Fund for a broad range of providers who can document revenue loss and expenses associated with the pandemic.
