Washington, D.C. –– U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff introduced a resolution honoring the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), based in Atlanta, Ga. The resolution honors the more than 23,000 CDC employees worldwide as they continue to work on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic and save lives in the United States.
Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05) introduced the companion resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock co-sponsored the resolution in the Senate, and Reps. Mike Levin (CA-49), Lucy McBath (GA-06), Jenniffer Gonzalez-Colon (PR-AL), Sanford Bishop (GA-02), Carolyn Bourdeaux (GA-07), and David Scott (GA-13) co-sponsored the resolution in the House.
Since its establishment in 1946, the CDC has become the leading public health agency of the United States, working to ensure every person can reach their full health potential. CDC scientists, disease detectives, career civil servants, and support staff have worked tirelessly to combat diseases like malaria, yellow fever, smallpox, polio, influenza, Ebola, and most recently, COVID-19.
