READOUT: Sen. Ossoff Receives South Korean President-Elect Yoon’s Delegation

Washington, D.C. — Last week, U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff received a delegation sent to the United States by South Korean President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol, who won the March 9 presidential election and will be inaugurated on May 10.

Sen. Ossoff met with Dr. Park Jin and Mr. Cho Tae Yong, who are National Assembly Members and key foreign policy advisors to President-elect Yoon.

The three discussed the importance of strengthening the U.S.-South Korea alliance, last week’s North Korean missile test, regional security in Northeast Asia, Russian military aggression in Ukraine, and expanding trade between the State of Georgia and South Korea.

Sen. Ossoff had previously met in November 2021 with President-elect Yoon, Dr. Park, and Mr. Cho when he led an economic delegation to South Korea, which is a key trading partner for the State of Georgia.

Sen. Ossoff remains a leader in the Senate pursuing stronger relations with South Korea, maintaining frequent contact with senior South Korean diplomatic, economic, and diplomatic officials.

In two separate engagements last month, Sen. Ossoff met with South Korean Ambassador to the United States Lee Soo-hyuck and Deputy National Security Advisor Kim Young Zhin.

Throughout his five-day visit in November 2021, Sen. Ossoff met with key economic and government leaders to strengthen economic, security, and cultural relations.

Georgia is a major destination for South Korean foreign direct investment, including major employers in strategic industries such as batteries, renewable energy, and cars, employing thousands of Georgians and representing billions of dollars of investment in the United States.

Georgia is home to Hanwha Q Cells, the largest solar module manufacturing facility in the Western Hemisphere, the SK Innovation electric vehicle battery plant, and a Kia manufacturing plant.
