Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is continuing his work to support military spouses and their families.
Today, Sen. Ossoff is launching a push to pass the bipartisan READINESS Act, legislation he is co-sponsoring to strengthen career flexibility for military spouses during a Permanent Change of Station, or when servicemembers are relocated to another installation.
The bipartisan bill would make it easier for military spouses who work for the Federal government to maintain their jobs when their spouse is relocated or help them find a similar job closer to their new base. Should a military spouse be eligible for a transfer or remote work, their federal agency of employment would be required to retain them under the new bill.
“Servicemembers and their families make tremendous sacrifices to keep our country safe, and many face frequent moves across the country and around the world during their time in service,” Sen. Ossoff said. “I’m working to bring Republicans and Democrats together to support military spouses.”
The bipartisan bill was first introduced by Senators Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Jerry Moran (R-KS), Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), and Jacky Rosen (D-NV).
Sen. Ossoff continues working to support the careers of military spouses.
In March, Sens. Ossoff and Eric Schmitt (R-MO) introduced the bipartisan Military Spouse Job Continuity Act to permanently authorize reimbursements for military spouses who are forced to pay fees for the transfer of a professional license or certification due to a Permanent Change of Station.
Last year, Sens. Ossoff and Schmitt passed into law their bipartisan Military Spouse Career Support Act of 2023 through the NDAA to support military spouses’ careers by expanding the reimbursement of licensure and business costs to spouses of servicemembers who are transferring to the reserve component.
In 2022, Sen. Ossoff passed into law his bipartisan Military Spouse Licensing Relief Act to make job opportunities more flexible for military spouses by requiring states to recognize the professional licenses of military spouses from other states when their family’s station changes.
