Atlanta, Ga. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is encouraging Georgia seniors to enroll or update their Medicare coverage benefits.
Medicare’s open enrollment period began on October 15 and will remain open through December 7 for Georgia’s seniors. Georgians can sign up for Medicare or make changes to their benefits by visiting medicare.gov or by calling 1-800-Medicare.
Every year, Medicare health and drug plans make changes to coverage and in-network providers and pharmacies. Newer plans may also be available at lower prices than you pay now.
“I want to make sure that seniors in Georgia know we are in the open enrollment period right now through December 7 — when it’s easiest to make changes to your plans and find ways to save money. My staff is standing by to assist all Georgia seniors with all of this — please contact us at ossoff.senate.gov,” Sen. Ossoff said.
Thanks to Sen. Ossoff’s work to pass the Inflation Reduction Act into law, many Georgia seniors will see lower costs for prescription drugs. The IRA capped insulin for seniors on Medicare at $35/month, and starting in 2024, Seniors and other Part D enrollees with high drug spending will have their out-of-pocket drug costs capped at about $3,500, and all enrollees will have their costs capped at $2,000 in 2025.
Also thanks to the IRA, Medicare has now begun negotiating lower drug costs for commonly used drugs, like those used to treat diabetes, high-blood pressure, heart disease, and more.

Late last year, following Sen. Ossoff bipartisan push, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) approved the “GA-STRONG” proposal, which provided new resources to help teaching hospitals across Georgia hire, train, and retain more health care workers.
