Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is working to reduce veteran homelessness, continuing his push to support those who have served.
Sen. Ossoff is working to pass legislation to expand support for veterans and ensure those struggling with housing insecurity have access to permanent, affordable housing.
“Our national honor requires that we lift up and support all who have sacrificed in America’s defense. That’s why I continue working to end veteran homelessness in Georgia and nationwide,” said Sen. Ossoff.
According to the Housing Assistance Council, more than 40,000 veterans in Georgia lived below the poverty line in 2019.
This is the latest in a long list of legislative efforts Sen. Ossoff is championing to support Georgia’s veterans and servicemembers.
Sen. Ossoff is working to pass the bipartisan Major Richard Star Act to ensure that Georgia’s combat-disabled veterans receive the full retirement pay and disability benefits they deserve.
He is also pushing the Military Hunger Prevention Act of 2021 to address food insecurity among servicemembers and their families and the Save Our Servicemembers Act, bipartisan legislation he co-sponsored to improve suicide prevention efforts for military servicemembers in Georgia and across the nation.
In September, Sen. Ossoff inspected the Atlanta VA Medical Center, pressing leadership on the neglect of thousands of pieces of undistributed mail and unresponsive phone systems and pledging to hold them accountable to improve veterans’ care.
