Sen. Ossoff helped pass the bipartisan “Border Patrol Enhancement Act” through U.S. Senate Homeland Security Committee
Bipartisan bill would strengthen border security by fairly paying customs & border patrol officers for overtime work
Atlanta, Ga — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is working to increase pay for customs and border patrol officers.
Last month, Sen. Ossoff helped pass the bipartisan Border Patrol Enhancement Act through the U.S. Senate Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs Committee, which would strengthen border security by ensuring that the U.S. Border Patrol can hire, train, and fairly pay law enforcement officers who are keeping our borders safe.
The bipartisan Border Patrol Enhancement Act would ensure Border Patrol agents are fairly paid for the overtime hours they work, and it would also improve Border Patrol staffing by setting a staffing level for Border Patrol based on the needs outlined in a Personnel Requirements Determination Model.
The bill would also standardize professional development and training requirements for all Border Patrol agents to crack down on drug and human trafficking and help keep families in Georgia and nationwide safe.
“Customs and border patrol officers in Georgia and across the country work long hours to secure ports of entry and our borders. They deserve to be paid fairly for overtime they work for protecting our country,” Sen. Ossoff said.
Sen. Ossoff continues his work to support law enforcement in Georgia and across the country.
Earlier this year, Sens. Ossoff and Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) introduced the bipartisan Filling Public Safety Vacancies Act to help law enforcement agencies reduce staffing shortages and effectively protect communities.
Last month, Sen. Ossoff also worked to pass the bipartisan Securing America’s Ports of Entry Act through the U.S. Senate Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs Committee to address personnel shortages at ports of entry.
