Sen. Ossoff’s Bipartisan Bill to Reduce Government Spending Becomes Law

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff’s bipartisan bill to reduce government spending is now law.

Sen. Ossoff’s bipartisan Eliminate Useless Reports Act, which he introduced alongside Sen. James Lankford (R-OK), will increase government efficiency by eliminating unnecessary Federal agency reports, saving taxpayer dollars and eliminating waste.

The bipartisan bill was signed into law Monday by the President.

Sen. Ossoff’s bipartisan law will reform a defunct process for Federal agencies to make recommendations about which Congressionally mandated reports should be sunset, consolidated, or reduced in frequency — helping cut unnecessary Federal spending.

“Taxpayer dollars are wasted on needless paperwork and red tape in the Federal government. I brought Republicans and Democrats together to cut waste and save taxpayer dollars,” said Sen. Ossoff.

“Less paper, more productivity. While most required reports to Congress from federal agencies are important, some provide less value than the paper they are printed on. But even as they’ve long-outlasted their usefulness, they never seem to get cleared off agencies’ must-do lists,” said Senator Lankford. “Let’s save tax dollars and the time of federal workers to provide better and more effective customer service by eliminating these unnecessary yet mandatory reports.”

Rep. Robert Garcia (CA-42) and Rep. Glenn Grothman (WI-06) led the companion bipartisan bill in the House of Representatives.

“Outdated government reports waste time and resources without providing value. Having seen this issue firsthand during my time as Mayor of Long Beach, I worked alongside colleagues from both parties to push for legislation that streamlines our government processes,” said Congressman Garcia.“I’m committed to making our government agencies more efficient and ensuring responsible use of our taxpayer dollars.”

“I was proud to introduce this bipartisan bill alongside my colleague, Congressman Robert Garcia (D-CA). By eliminating unnecessary reports, this bill will take a significant step toward improving government efficiency. This bill will lead to savings for taxpayers, ensuring that their hard-earned money is used more effectively to support essential services and programs,” said Congressman Grothman. “I am thrilled it has been signed into law by President Biden.”
