Washington, D.C. –– Several of Georgia U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff’s voting rights bills have been included in major new voting rights legislation introduced in the Senate today.
Sen. Ossoff’s landmark Right to Vote Act, which would create a first-ever affirmative federal voting rights guarantee for all U.S. citizens, and his Voters’ Access to Water Act, which would protect voters’ access to water when they are made to wait in line outside polling places, are both included in the new Freedom to Vote Act.
“I introduced the Right to Vote Act to protect the sacred franchise for every American citizen. Too many Americans bled and died for voting rights to give up this fight. My legislation continues to build support and momentum in the Senate and I will keep pushing it toward the floor for a vote,” said Sen. Ossoff.
The Freedom to Vote Act also includes two additional measures sponsored by Sen. Ossoff: the Protecting Election Administration from Interference Act, which would expand protections for election administrators from threats and violence and protect against efforts to undermine legitimate election results, and the Preventing Election Subversion Act of 2021, which would institute new safeguards to protect state election administrators from partisan pressure.
