Sen. Ossoff helps push package of bipartisan bills through Senate Judiciary Committee to bring down prescription drug costs and improve transparency in the pharmaceutical industry
According to The Current, Georgia ranks 4th in the nation for highest out-of-pocket prescription drug costs
Washington, D.C. — This week, the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee passed several bipartisan bills championed by U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff to lower prescription drug prices in Georgia and nationwide.
As part of his continued push to reduce out-of-pocket prescription drug costs for Georgians, Sen. Ossoff helped advance a package of bipartisan legislation — bringing together Democrats and Republicans to pass a fleet of bills dedicated to reducing these burdensome costs for Georgians.
“I want to thank my bipartisan colleagues, Republicans and Democrats, for our collaborative effort to lower prescription drug prices for Georgians and all Americans,” Sen. Ossoff said at yesterday’s hearing. “I urge this committee and the full Senate to pass this legislation so that Americans are not ripped off by drug companies every single day.”
The package of bipartisan bills are aimed at:
- Boosting competition in the pharmaceutical sector, which will allow companies to offer lower-cost alternatives
- Increasing oversight of pharmacy benefit managers that regulate prescription drug benefits
- Improving transparency and fairness in the entire prescription drug supply chain
According to The Current, Georgia ranks fourth in the nation for highest out-of-pocket prescription drug costs, and the state possess the third-highest number of uninsured people living in the state.
The bills (S. 79, S.113, S. 142, S. 148, and S.150) now head to the U.S. Senate floor for a vote.
