Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is introducing bipartisan legislation to upgrade military facilities and strengthen national security.
Today, Sens. Ossoff and James Lankford (R-OK) introduced the bipartisan Military Facilities Upgrades Act to make it easier to replace damaged and older facilities on military installations in Georgia and nationwide — helping restore barracks, child development centers, all of which are essential for military readiness and quality of life for thousands of military families.
The bipartisan Military Facilities Upgrades Act would help ensure members of the armed forces have access to high-quality infrastructure to perform their jobs and continue keeping the nation safe by granting new authorities to replace current facilities in failing condition.
“I’ve introduced the Military Facilities Upgrades Act to protect America’s national security and upgrade military installations in Georgia,” Sen. Ossoff said. “I’m bringing Republicans and Democrats together to keep our nation safe and ensure servicemembers can work in world class facilities in Georgia and nationwide.”
“Too often the government wastes taxpayer dollars by repeatedly repairing facilities, when in some instances, replacing them would much more cost effective. Our military personnel need reliable, high-quality facilities in order to be mission-ready. Spending billions of dollars on repairs that don’t make a difference is not a savings—it’s wasteful and counterproductive,” Sen. Lankford said.
Sen. Ossoff continues to champion Georgia’s servicemembers and military families.
Over the last two years, Sen. Ossoff has led several bipartisan investigations into the mistreatment and neglect of military families living in privatized housing on Ft. Gordon, highlighting the misconduct that many families faced while living in these housing units.
Last year, Sen. Ossoff worked across the aisle to successfully secure resources through the FY23 NDAA to upgrade barracks, daycare centers, and other facilities for military families in Georgia and across the nation.
