Atlanta, Ga. — Today, after landing back in Georgia, U.S. Senators Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock held a media availability on their decisive votes to pass the most significant economic relief package for working- and middle-class families in American history.
The $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan Act will ensure COVID-19 vaccines are free and available for every American, provide stimulus checks and tax credits worth thousands of dollars for working- and middle-class families, and deliver more than $4 billion to safely re-open Georgia’s public schools.
The bill also provides $8 billion to state and local government in Georgia alone — double what Georgia received in the CARES Act — to save jobs, boost economic growth, and maintain vital public services.
“This morning, the United States Senate passed historic COVID relief. The United States is turning the corner in this long pandemic. This bill, when it becomes law, will deliver thousands of dollars of economic relief to working families here in Georgia, more than $4 billion to safely re-open schools right here in Georgia,” Senator Ossoff said at the media availability alongside Senator Rev. Warnock. “This legislation, when it becomes law, will ensure every Georgian can get a COVID-19 vaccine for free. Light is indeed at the end of the tunnel. We have turned a corner, and had Georgia voters not stood up in record numbers in January, this legislation could not have been passed. And so the whole country owes a debt of gratitude to Georgia voters for empowering the United States Senate to pass this historic COVID relief.”
