Echoing Public Health Experts, Sen. Ossoff Warns CDC is At Risk

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff today released the following statement warning against the Trump Administration’s attacks on the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

“The Trump Administration is undermining vital CDC data, research, and public health reporting, endangering Georgians and all Americans who depend on the world’s leading public health agency. The Trump Administration’s apparent campaign to hollow out America’s public health system puts us all at risk. I will vigorously fight back against attempts to weaken the CDC and political attacks on its employees.”

According to The Associated Press, last week, several Federal agencies took down their websites, including key research at the CDC. The AP reports the move “sparked a mad scramble” to check what data had been removed. According to NBC News, the chaos has resulted in interruptions of vital reporting and publication of public health data.

Several public health experts have sounded the alarm that removing data risks making it harder for the agency to conduct its life-saving research, including on disease outbreaks.
