Sen. Ossoff Expanding Mental Health & Substance Abuse Treatment Support for Georgia Families

Atlanta, Ga. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is strengthening mental health and substance abuse treatment services for Georgia families.

Today, Sen. Ossoff announced he is delivering $7.2 million in Federal resources to Community Health Centers across Georgia through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to strengthen access to mental health and substance abuse treatment.

The funding will be used to establish and expand local programs that help individuals struggling with their mental health or substance use.

“I hear consistently from local leaders, health leaders, and faith leaders across the state about the need for a stronger safety net for mental health as well as investment in substance abuse prevention and treatment,” Sen. Ossoff said. “I’m pleased to announce that with bipartisan support from Republicans and Democrats, I’ve helped secure supplemental investments coming to Georgia to support mental health and substance abuse treatment.”

Mental Health America’s The State of Mental Health in America 2024 report found the vast majority of people with a substance use disorder in the U.S. are not receiving treatment, and that over half of youth surveyed who experienced mental health struggles did not receive treatment.
