Sen. Ossoff Leading Bipartisan Push to Strengthen Health Care Services for Veterans in Rural Georgia

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is launching a new bipartisan push to strengthen health care for veterans across rural Georgia.

Sens. Ossoff and Mike Rounds (R-SD) are leading a bipartisan group of 24 U.S. Senators working to strengthen the VA’s Office of Rural Health, which would improve access to VA care for the more than 4.7 million veterans across the country living in rural areas.

“Congress must ensure the VA has the resources necessary to reach all of our veterans, no matter where they live,” Sen. Ossoff and the bipartisan group wrote. “Our rural veterans have earned the right to quality, timely, and accessible care.”

The goal is to help more veterans access telehealth services and transportation programs to ensure veterans get the care they need when they might live hours away from the nearest VA clinic.

Sens. Ossoff and Rounds were joined by Sens. Jon Tester (D-MT), Tom Cotton (R-AR), Mark Kelly (D-AZ), Angus King (I-ME), Ben Ray Lujan (D-NM), Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA), Tim Kaine (D-VA), Ron Wyden (D-OR), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), John Hickenlooper (D-CO), Bob Casey (D-PA), Alex Padilla (D-CA), Michael Bennet (D-CO), Tina Smith (D-MN), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV), Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), Jacky Rosen (D-NV), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), and Joe Manchin (D-WV).

This is the latest in a string of actions Sen. Ossoff has taken to improve the health and lives of veterans in Georgia.

Last year, Sen. Ossoff launched a push to improve veterans’ access to mental health care, and reduce homelessness among the veteran community.

He also secured $2.5 million to help homeless Georgia veterans reenter the workforce.
