Sen. Ossoff Strengthening Workforce Development Programs at Ogeechee Technical College

Statesboro, Ga. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is delivering Federal funding to strengthen workforce development programs at Ogeechee Technical College.

Sens. Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock are delivering a $99,999 grant through the USDA’s Rural Business Development Grant program to help Ogeechee Technical College purchase a new truck for its Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training program.

The grant will help boost workforce development programs in the area and prepare students for jobs. “Senator Warnock and I are pleased to help deliver this workforce development investment to Ogeechee Technical College to ensure Coastal Georgia’s residents have access to job training programs and to strengthen our supply chains,” Sen. Ossoff said.

“Ogeechee Technical College is incredibly grateful for the USDA Rural Development Grant that helped fund the purchase of an additional truck for our Commercial Truck Driving program,” said Neal Owens, Dean for Academic Affairs at Ogeechee Technical College. “The truck we purchased has an automatic transmission and allows us to train students that may struggle with a manual transmission. More companies are adding automatic transmission trucks to their fleets and this allows us to expand our efforts of preparing tomorrow’s workforce.”

Sen. Ossoff continues to advocate for small businesses and workforce development across Georgia.

In September, Sen. Ossoff delivered new resources through the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) for Wiregrass Georgia Technical College to expand their truck driver training program and boost job creation in the region.

In November, Sen. Ossoff also delivered $749,896 through the Economic Development Administration (EDA) to Spelman College as part of the Center for Black Entrepreneurship Launch Incubator for Traction (CBE LIFT) project.

In July, Sen. Ossoff launched an inquiry with the Department of Labor (DOL) to reopen the Job Corps Atlanta site, which provided housing and tailored professional training to students seeking jobs in Georgia.
