Port of Savannah is fastest growing container port in the country
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is working to secure funding to enhance security at Georgia ports and ports nationwide.
Georgia is home to some of the largest and fastest-growing ports in the world. The Port of Savannah, which hosts the largest single-terminal facility in the world, is the fastest growing container port in the nation. The Port of Brunswick is the nation’s second busiest port for import and export Roll-on/Roll-off cargo, such as vehicles and trucks.
As the ports continue to grow, Sen. Ossoff is calling on Congress to include funding in the upcoming budget reconciliation bill to boost Customs and Border Protection (CBP) capabilities at ports in Georgia and across the country.
“Georgia is a world logistics hub, and Georgia’s ports are vital to our state’s economy. That’s why I am working to ensure the Department of Homeland Security is equipped to protect the Port of Savannah and all Georgia port facilities,”Sen. Ossoff said.
Sen. Ossoff, a fierce advocate for the Port of Savannah and Georgia’s regional economy, has worked with both public and private sector officials to secure funding for the port throughout his time in the U.S. Senate.
Sen. Ossoff has secured commitments from Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Acting Director of the Office of Management and Budget Shalanda Young to work to fund the completion of the Port of Savannah deepening project.
He inspected the Port’s expansion and deepening projects in May and pledged to fight to secure the necessary funding to complete the projects.
