Suicides in military increased 15% last year
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is working to help Georgia’s military servicemembers access improved mental health support.
Sen. Ossoff is calling on Congress to pass the Save Our Servicemembers Act, bipartisan legislation he co-sponsored to improve suicide prevention efforts for military servicemembers in Georgia and across the nation.
“I’m working with colleagues in both parties to make mental health services more accessible to military personnel in Georgia and nationwide,” Sen. Ossoff said.
In 2020, nearly 600 servicemembers died by suicide, according to a Department of Defense report, representing a 15% increase from 2019.
Sen. Ossoff also recently announced a push to cut red tape and ensure that Georgia’s combat-disabled veterans receive the full retirement pay and disability benefits they deserve.
